4 Yayasan Cemerlang MBA scholarship holders, left for Phnom Penh, Cambodia on the 23rd of February for a 3-day visit and ran a full day training programme on the 24th at the AHHA Education centre. This volunteering programme is a part of Organisational Behaviour coursework at Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK), which requires students to conduct an exploratory study in a natural setting to help them better understand the subject concepts and theories.
The January 2017 semester students for this course chose to design a study for observation to take place in an unfamiliar culture, and at the same time be able to make a direct contribution to the community of study through volunteer work. With the support from the Graduate School of Business, & personal sponsorships, this team of four collaborated with AHHA Education, an NGO in Phnom Penh, to train a group of thirty underserved youths in the district on entrepreneurial skills.
Officially, my campus life started at 1/9/2016. Before that, there was an orientation camp conducted for about four days. The theme of the orientation is Minds 16. In this camp, we were exposed to various things in the university such as rules and regulations, co-curriculum, executive management board of the university and so on. Although throughout these few days, all first year students were fatigue but this orientation was a good experience indeed. We were able to know and establish friendships with seniors or between first years. Interesting thing throughout the event was we dance so much together with seniors, as they called as “refreshment time”.
After Minds 16, we started our lecture and laboratory sessions.. To make my university lives meaningful, I participated in various events. The event that I involved most frequently is running event. From the very beginning until now, the running event involved covered from 5km to 10km. Funny thing is I never ran for more than 2km at my hometown but now I can achieve until 10 km! I also found out that my stamina becomes stronger and I believe that I can manage further distance in the future!
For the time being, my second semester had just began and for this week, it is compulsory for us to register our courses online. I am looking forward to excel and be more active in this semester and afterwards. I am also hoping to cope with various activities and societies as I love to place myself close to the community.
Alhamdulillah, praises and thanks to Allah. By this scholarship, it helps me to participate in any activities in University of Malaya without having any financial problems. A big thanks I wish to the committee members for choosing me as one of the scholarship recipients for Tun Rahah Scholarship Award.
I am Edmund Tingkui, was born in 1995 and would be 22 for this year. I want to share a bit of my story on how I got the scholarship from Yayasan Cemerlang to continue my study at University Tun Abdul Razak (Unirazak) as an undergraduate student. Soon as I have completed my Diploma study, I was chosen to be in the list of students who are receiving scholarships, so therefore I should take this opportunity to further my studies, which is in Unirazak. Things are not quite that smooth when I had to arrange my studies in Unirazak from my hometown, which I have faced with a lot of communication barrier as the internet and phone reception in my hometown are not quite good. Though there are problems, all matter is successfully settled thankfully.
I have decided to take part in the Bachelor of Business Management (Hons) Entrepreneurship in Unirazak, as I would like to learn and explore on how to be a successful businessman, because one day when I finish my studies at Unirazak I would like to be a successful businessman not only at the level of country to country business, but also global level as well.
The process of arriving at Unirazak brings a lot of joy and tears to me as I would leave my hometown and to be in entirely new surroundings, but I have received many encouragements and are able to build up my confidence to take a new challenge ahead. Journey involved are such; air transportation-which takes approximately two hours and twenty minutes, land transport- my hometown to Kota Kinabalu Capital City Airport which consume roughly 2 hours and a half.
