Tun Rahah Scholars involved in“ Gotong-Royong” at the Orang Asli Village in Kampung Chemperoh, Janda Baik.

On Saturday, 17th of May 2014, 8 Tun Rahah Scholars volunteered to participate in a “Gotong-Royong” at the Orang Asli settlement in Kampong Chemperoh, Janda Baik, Pahang. The event was jointly organized by the Dialog Group and the MyKasih Foundation as part of their “Love my neighborhood program” that provides food aid, health awareness programs, children's education, and skills training programs to less fortunate Malaysians. Public sector representatives from the ‘Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN)’ and the Ministry of Health were also present to contribute their expertise on health screenings, deworming and dental check ups on the Orang Asli .


The ‘Gotong Royong’ kick-started around 9.30 in the morning. All volunteers were divided into several groups for different tasks that included river cleaning, unclogging of drains, cleaning waste and potential mosquito breeding areas and also sorting and distributing donated items. Furthermore, there was also a coloring competition and games for Orang Asli children coordinated by Dutch Lady’s Blue Brigade.  All volunteers joined the Orang Asli for lunch and during lunch, there was a magic show performance and games for the children to enjoy.

At the end of the evening, CEO of Yayasan Cemerlang, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hafriza Burhanudeen took a walk through the Orang Asli neighborhood, accompanied by all the Tun Rahah Scholars, students from Monash University and volunteers from the MyKasih Foundation.
