Kuala Lumpur - 17 Yayasan Cemerlang scholars attended a talk session by an eminent guest  YBhg. Dato' Mohamad Nizar Najib, the Executive Director of Deloitte's Financial Advisory Services. The event was organized by  Bank Rakyat School of Business and Entrepreneurship (BRSBE) and Corporate Citizenship (CC) of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK). The talk was held at the Innovation Hall, Level 2, UNIRAZAK, Jalan Tangsi on 20 April 2016.


The aim of the event is to create awareness among the students on expected professional skills from Deloitte, one of the biggest accounting firms in the world. The talk session was attended by more than 70 students comprised of Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) and Bachelor of Taxation (Hons) programmes. Among the guests that graced the event were Assoc. Prof. Hafriza Binti Burhanudeen, the Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Cemerlang and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkiffle Bin Mohamed, the Dean of BRSBE.


The speaker of the event, YBhg. Dato' Mohd Nizar Najib holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW) and also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). Prior to joining Deloitte, he was a member of the Communications and Hi-Tech team with Accenture in Malaysia. Dato' Nizar has more than 15 years of consulting and audit experience with strategic and key Government related entities such as Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Time Dotcom, Celcom, Petronas and Koperasi Permodalan Felda. His wide range of experience includes assignments in the areas of corporate strategy CFO services, mergers and acquisitions, performance improvement, systems testing, financial modelling, and management and technical due diligence.


Dato' Nizar commenced the talk by sharing his 15 years of journey from a junior audit consultant to where he is now. He then enlightened the students on the importance of accounting knowledge in assessing organizations financial performances. According to him, the country is in need of at least 60,000 accountants by 2020 but there are only 31,000 have registered under MIA.


At the end of the talk, Associate Professor Dr. Zulkiffle Bin Mohamed presented Dato' Nizar with a token of appreciation for sharing his knowledge with the undergraduates. The programme followed by an Hi-Tea session with Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Md. Zabid Hj Abdul Rashid, Yayasan Cemerlang Trustee and all distinguished guests and committee members.
